The 'prompt' this week was to write a hymn. Something a community might sing together in support of shared beliefs. These qualities of interaction and being seemed worth supporting to me. Many arise from my experience as a mediator.
Lyrics
One who knows the heart has vision
One whose mind stands quietly by
One who stands in opposition
One whose love shows in their eye
One who feels the earth beneath his feet
And her supporting empathy
[chorus]
For today, could this be you,
could this be me?
For today, you or me
[verse 2]
One whose voice rings out with passion
One who knows the need to try
One who sees with deep compassion
One who never passes by
One who sits with sadness patiently
In respectful company
[chorus]
For today, could this be you
could this be me?
For today, you or me
[Verse 3]
For today, I will ask the hardest question
For today, I will not thread another lie
For today I will listen with discretion
and a heart that's open wide
[verse]
One who carries no obsession
One whose listening helps me see
One who laughs with life's progression
Who's at peace with uncertainty
Who breathes the present moment in
and let's go her history
[final chorus]
For today, this could be you, this could be me,
For today you and me
For today you and me
