I have always loved the fall explosion of color that happens, especially in New England where I grew up. Now that I'm in my seventh decade, the annual leaf parade inspired something new.

Lyrics

Leaves of green work day and night
All summer long They'll soon take flight
Let other colors bloom and show
We celebrate, what do we know?

[Verse 2]
A touch of cool A dusting of frost
The waning sun A brush with loss
And though the leaves will fall and die
We celebrate, who knows why?

[verse 3]
They flutter and float like butterflies
Blanket the world Dazzle the skies
They touch the ground, they all turn brown
We rake 'em up and clown around

[break]
And every year this dying game
is welcomed in with joy
Speaks to the bones of this old man
and the heart of this young boy

[verse 4]
Let my true colors
brightly burn
and dance with the wind
of my return
