Sometimes in the songwriting process we take a free-writing session and try turning some part of it into a letter to find out what we want our song to say. This time the letter writing itself took hold of me.

Lyrics

I wrote myself a letter
I know that might sound strange
Wrote myself a letter
No postage to arrange
I wrote myself a letter
Just to get things off my chest
But when I read that letter
All it said was, "You're the best!"

[Chorus]
Well you're alright
Don't change a thing
I kinda like your style
Especially when you sing!
Yeah you’ve got some quirks
'n' off-beat qualities
Up in your tree
You are a sight to see!
Sincerely, Me!

[verse 2]
I wrote myself a letter
Looking to pick a fight.
Wrote myself a letter
So much stuff I don't get right
I wrote myself a letter
Expecting to lower the boom
But when I read that letter
Said, "Now, that's a cool costume!"

[chorus]

[Break]
That inner critic - is on your side
When he comes around, no need to hide
Just feel the love behind the heat
Then say your thanks -
Take it to the bank
Sincerely, Me!

[intrumental break]

[Verse 3]
Gonna write myself a letter
It's good to keep in touch
Gonna write myself a letter
Keep pickin' through my stuff
Gonna write myself a letter, someday
My kids will read them all
Keep reading what I'm writin'
Keep writin' "Have a ball!"
